Jason White redesigned and began teaching the Youth Jazz Ensemble workshop 6 years ago. Subsequently, this program’s popularity and reputation have skyrocketed, making it Waterloo Region’s premiere opportunity for young people to learn to play jazz or to build toward careers in music. A high percentage of this program’s graduates have gone on to study jazz in universities, colleges, and conservatories.
Jason is active at the forefront of musical and interdisciplinary art-making in the Waterloo Region. He is seen regularly at The Jazz Room, commissions new works from composers around the world, and consults for other organizations on production. He coaches professional groups from rock bands to jazz combos to string quartets, and coaches singers in jazz, opera, and musical theatre. He performs regularly with several area orchestras and frequently performs in support of Waterloo Region-based charitable causes.
Jason is in high demand as an educator, maintaining a busy private studio, guest lecturing in university programs, adjudicating competitions nationwide, and running piano exams internationally. He is a Registered Music Teacher through ORMTA, and has a number of compositions on RCM examination lists.
